Dennis Friess studied Public Policy (Social Science, Economics and Law) and Communication Science at the University of Erfurt (B.A., 2010) and completed his Master’s degree in Political Communication at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf in 2013. He gained international experience during a research internship in Dubai, focusing on social media monitoring and analysis between 2010 and 2011.

From 2013 to 2019, he worked as a research associate at the Chair of Communication and Media Studies III at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, where he also earned his PhD in 2020 with the dissertation “Deliberative Online Publics. A Cumulative Analysis.” Between 2019 and 2022, he was scientific coordinator of the NRW Research College on Online Participation. After contributing to the UPEKI project at the Chair of Political Science II in 2022, he took on his current role as research coordinator of the Düsseldorf Institute for Internet and Democracy (DIID).
