Repeatedly deceived? Identifying, Understanding, and Countering the Effects of Cross-Platform Political Disinformation in the Everyday Lives of Young People and Adolescents (WIEGE, funded by BMFTR)

About the Project

The WIEGE consortium funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) and investigates how repeated, cross-platform political disinformation shapes young people’s everyday media use and its effects on their attitudes, trust, and behaviour. The project establishes an open, sustainable data infrastructure and develops validated, automated, AI-powered analytical methods to detect patterns across multiple platforms.

Representative surveys, mobile experience sampling, and experimental studies examine how frequently young people encounter cross-platform political disinformation and how well they recognize it. In addition, the effects and possible communication strategies to address them are being examined. The findings will be translated into teaching materials, teacher training programs, and digital educational resources to strengthen young people’s resilience against cross-platform political disinformation.
